Dorian Byrd

Dorian W. Byrd, performing artist, instructor, choreographer, and storyteller received her BFA degree from the Juilliard School and her MA degree from the University of Iowa dance programs. Her varied background in dance and performing arts include work in the states and abroad and covers a wide range of dance style from classical to modern and ethnic dance forms. She formerly danced with Dianne McIntyre's Sounds in Motion, Elizabeth Keen Dance Company, and Glenn Brooks Third World Movements in New York City. Dorian has conducted residencies for numerous Artist-In-School programs throughout the states of New York, Nebraska, and Iowa. College teaching includes University of Nebraska, Delta College, Teikyo Marycrest University, University of Iowa and recently retired from teaching at Augustana College. She is founder and director of the Imani! Tandazo Dancers, a faith based dance company specializing in gospel and African-American heritage material. Dorian is married to Palmer Byrd II, and has two daughters, Briana and Ashley.
